Choosing Appliances You Will Adore

When it comes to appliances, most people have a tendency to pay more attention to anything else when they shop: price. Unfortunately, finding cheap appliances doesn't always mean you will find good appliances. As an income property owner, I have purchased several different appliances over the years, and I can tell you first hand that not all brands are created equal. My blog is dedicated to helping you to find appliances that you will actually be able to use, abuse, and love for a long time. Check out my blog for information on what to look for, how to shop, and where to get great deals.

5 Signs That You Need Appliance Repair

by Melanie Hanson

Household appliances play a huge role in helping you maintain your home and belongings. When they aren't working correctly, this can disrupt your entire household. Here are a few common signs that your appliances need repair.

1. Your Appliance is Making an Odd Noise

While it's normal for an appliance to make some noise while running, this noise should be similar to white noise and your appliance should consistently make the same type of noise. If your appliance is making a buzzing, squealing, or clanking sound, this usually indicates that one or more of the internal parts require repairs.

2. The Appliance is Performing Poorly

Maybe you've noticed that your dishes are still dirty after you run the dishwasher, or perhaps it takes several cycles for your clothes dryer to dry your clothes. When the performance of an appliance declines, this means that something isn't working properly. Appliance repairs will detect and fix the problem so that your appliance is working as expected.

3. You Notice That the Appliance is Leaking

An appliance that uses water should never leak. If you spot a puddle of water near an appliance, it's likely that one of the appliance's seals has gone bad or that there's an internal part leaking water. Promptly fixing the worn-out or broken component will fix the problem and ensure that a leaky appliance doesn't inadvertently damage your home.

4. Your Utility Bills are Higher Than Usual

When your appliances aren't working properly, they require more energy to do their jobs. Higher-than-expected energy bills are a common sign that your appliances are struggling and require repair. For example, if your dryer's heating element isn't working correctly, it will take forever for your clothes to dry, causing your power bill to skyrocket.

Sometimes, appliances that are overdue for routine maintenance will also need more energy to function. An HVAC system with a dirty filter will run longer and more frequently, increasing your power bills and putting unnecessary stress on the unit. Over time, postponing appliance repairs will cause you to pay more energy costs and even shorten the lifespan of your appliance.

5. The Appliance Won't Turn On

An appliance should always turn on during your first attempt to do so. There is a slew of different issues that can make an appliance refuse to power on; an appliance repair specialist will examine your appliance to determine what parts need to be replaced or adjusted so that your appliance functions as expected.
